BLT Must Haves

These are a few items that I can't live without when I'm on the road. They streamline my packing, make my airports/airplanes more relaxing, and just generally make my life easier when I'm out in the world. FYI, none of these brands pay me to feature them here. In fact, nobody pays me to say anything here. Phew, glad that's off my chest. Anyways, so these cool gizmos and gadgets:

Luggage

Topo Travel Bag

This thing changed my [luggage] life. I always carry on, and this Mary Poppins bag somehow fits just the right amount for five days or three weeks. The minimalist design lets you be the boss, and the lack of wheels will set you free. You'll never check again... but if you do, the bright colors stand out on the carrousel.

Get Smart

Kindle

Took me forever to give in... but I'm glad I did. I like the simple paperwhite version without internet browser or apps. Sync it to your local public library account for access to 1000s of free titles. Turn it on airplane mode 24/7 so your books don't disappear when the due date comes up. Bonus: airplane mode = super long battery life.

Organization

Packing Cubes

If you don't use these, get over yourself. They sell combo packs of 5 at Ikea for literally $7. Bonus- they're lightweight. They don't have to be fancy, they just have to keep your shit organized so you're not such a hot mess every time you pop the zipper on your suitcase.

Eco Chic

Stojo Collapsible Mug

I hate paper/plastic waste, especially when I'm on the road. Aside from always bringing my own water bottle (duh), I also love this little light weight, rubber hot beverage cup that crunches down to fit in a purse, jacket pocket, or pretty much anywhere. Bye bye single use cup!

Share the Sound

Cords, Wires & Splitters

I always have an aux cord in my bag. It comes in surprisingly handy (rental car radio torture anyone?). I also always carry a splitter- a little tree that has 3 headphone ports so you and two friends can listen to the same music/podcasts off one device together! Especially fun if you're on long buses/trains with friends!

So Fresh

Trader Joe's Rosewater

When the air is dry, or my face is dry, or something smells, or I'm tired, or I'm stressed, or I just need to freshen up in 10 seconds or less, I spray this magic juice on my face and BAM, fresh as fuck. Not kidding. Even my male friends find this $4 spray extremely reviving and delightful. It's worth the 3oz. Trust me.

Save a Friendship

Trip Splitter App

Know how frustrating it can be to share costs when traveling with friends? This app makes it a breeze, easily tracking group expenses. It has options for uneven splits, one-on-one IOUs, and multiple currencies. When your trip is over, it does the who-owes-who math and sends you all an email. Technology.

Keep A Record

Moleskine Journals

These little black books have recorded the majority of my travels since I was 16 years old. You can't beat the smooth pages and keepsake back pocket, and I love how the leather wears in with use. There are hundreds of styles, so pick one that's right for you. I like the soft cover, blank pages!
